News & Events

Taxicab Rates: Effective June 01, 2008 the District of Columbia taxicabs converted to time & distance meters to compute cab fares. Use the Rates link to see the new Time & Distance metered fare rates and extras like additional passengers, luggage, radio call and rush hour.

Shared Ride: As of June 01, 2008, Shared Ride can only be done at Union Station under the supervision of a dispatcher.

Group Ride: As of June 01, 2008, Group Ride was redefined as a group of passengers from the same pickup location going to different destinations who are willing to share the taxicab ride. The driver will start the meter at the beginning and stop it at end of each leg of the trip. The departing passengers at each leg will pay the fare amount and extras dispayed on the meter.  The additional passenger charge of $1.50 is in effect for multiple passengers departing at the same destination.

Taxicab Fare Estimator:  Use the Fare Estimator link to calculate the estimated fare and extra charges from designated pickup and destination addresses or Points of Interest (POI).  This tool, developed by an independent source, will calculate the DC taxicab fares when you enter your travel information in the fields provided. Please note that all results are estimates and may vary depending on many external factors such as traffic and weather.

Lost & Found Items:  Drivers are required to turn in all Lost & Found artilces from taxicabs to the DC Taxicab Commission.   Please call 202-645 6020

Gasoline Surcharge:  The $1.00 gasoline surcharge is not in effect at this time.

Looking for More Dispatch Drivers:  YCDC is looking for more computer-dispatched cab drivers to meet the growing business and public demand. YCDC's new automated computer dispatch system uses GPS and a combination of zonal and closet cab dispatch methods to quickly dispatch the nearest cab to the customers. There is more than enough work in the system today and increasing rapidly. Now is the time to stop "bumping the curb" and become a computer-dispatched taxicab driver.
